In the early 1960's, a group of adventurous young people with a common interest in outdoor activities got together to form a club for other like-minded people. 12 of them formed a pro tem committee and registered the club in August 1963. Thus was formed the Singapore Adventurers' Club, the first all-volunteer adventure club in Singapore.

From a membership of about 20 when it was first established, SAC is more than 500-strong today. Significantly, of the original 12 founder members in the pro tem committee, 4 of them continued to play a significant role in the Club's activities.

SAC organised its first mountain trekking expedition to Mount Ophir in West Malaysia in 1963 and has not looked back since.

Although Mount Ophir continues to be a favourite destination, SAC teams have scaled Mount Kinabalu (East Malaysia), Gunung Tahan (West Malaysia), Mount Apo (Philippines), Mount Rinjani (Indonesia), Kalapatta (Nepal), Jade Mountain (Taiwan), and Mount Wilhelm (Papua New Guinea), just to name a few. In recent years, our members scaled trekking peaks like Mera (6,476m), Parcharmo (6,187m), Imja Tse (6,189m), Paldor (5,928m) in Nepal, and climbing Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, becomes an annual affair.

In keeping with its focus on adventure, the Club has Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to scale Mount Everest, as its patron.
